How to Prepare for a Real Estate Photoshoot

What To Do Before the Real Estate Shoot

Every home is different, but there are typical money shots that every real estate photographer will want to capture. It’s essential to know what to cover and how to shoot real estate photography. This list will help make sure that you hit all your must-have real estate shots, and real estate agents know what they can expect from your shoot.

  • 2 wide-angle shots of each bedroom, the kitchen, and the living room.
  • 1 photo of each bathroom, unless it’s incredibly beautiful and spacious.
  • 1-3 photos of the backyard and additional photos if it has unique features.
  • 1-2 shots of the front of the home to show ‘curb appeal’.
  • 1 shot of each feature, such as laundry room, guest bedrooms, garage, closets, and pantry.

Prepare Equipment Before The Shoot

Preparation is crucial when it comes to real estate photography because there is nothing worse than being at a shoot and something is not working or you leave essential equipment at home.

  • Always take your charger; a dead battery cancels the whole shoot.
  • Take a secondary camera if you have one.
  • Prep your photography gear like charging all batteries, formatting your memory card, and packing up your bag.
  • Look up directions from the address and make sure you’ve scheduled enough time for the drive.
  • If you have the backup gear you can take with you, be sure to pack those items as well.

What to Do at the Property

Decluttering is important in real estate photography because small items that you don’t notice will stand out in photos. Be sure the home’s exterior has clean surfaces like countertops, coffee tables, and desks. You want a few decorative items, and for unwanted items, they can be stashed in a closet until the photo shoot ends.

Walk Through the Home Before You Start

Every home is different, and getting a feel for space before picking up the camera will give you an idea of how you want to shoot each room. Walk through the home and make mental notes for the best angel and what small items you need to move. If you are not good at remembering details, get a notepad and jot down a few things. This will let you know which spaces are ready for you and others that need a few minutes to tidy up.
